Visa & entry

Getting your visa

Bangladesh doesn't have a fully electronic visa system. Every visitor needs either a Visa on Arrival, if their nationality qualifies, or a visa arranged in advance through a Bangladesh mission before departure. Check which category applies before booking flights.

Visa on arrival

Citizens of the following countries can get a single-entry Visa on Arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, and at some land border and sea ports, for tourism, business, or investment:

Cost and duration: US$50–51 (or the euro equivalent), cash only, paid on arrival. Valid 30 days, single entry, extendable once for another 30 days at the Department of Immigration and Passports in Agargaon, Dhaka. Apply for the extension up to a week before it expires.

What to bring: a passport valid at least six months past your arrival date with blank pages, a return or onward ticket, and either a hotel booking for your full stay or an invitation from a business or relative in Bangladesh. Pre-register online at voa.specialbranch.gov.bd. Issuance is still at the immigration officer's discretion, so meeting the requirements on paper doesn't guarantee approval.

If your country isn't on that list

Most nationalities, including India, need to apply for a regular visa before arriving. Start on the government's Online MRV Portal (visa.gov.bd), fill out the form, print it, and take it to the nearest Bangladesh embassy or consulate with your passport, photos, and supporting documents. A tourist (T-category) visa typically needs:

  • Passport valid 6+ months with at least two blank pages
  • Two recent passport photos
  • Printed, barcoded MRV form
  • Hotel booking or an invitation letter
  • Proof of a return ticket and sufficient funds

Processing usually takes five to seven working days, though it varies by mission. Fees depend on nationality and range from free to over US$150 — check the schedule for your specific country on visa.gov.bd before applying.

Visa-free entry

Ordinary passport holders from these countries can enter for up to 90 days without any visa:

Notes for specific travelers

India

Indian nationals aren't on the Visa on Arrival list and need to apply ahead through a Bangladesh mission in India. Services at the High Commission in New Delhi and its consulates were briefly paused in December 2025 and fully restored by May 2026. Given how quickly that changed, confirm current status with the nearest mission before applying.

Israel

Bangladesh has no diplomatic relations with Israel and refuses entry to Israeli passport holders.

Overstaying

Fines start at 200 taka per day for the first 15 days and rise to 500 taka per day after that, plus a fresh visa fee may apply. Apply for an extension before your visa expires.
