Do you need a visa?
Nationals of most countries require a visa to enter Bangladesh. A small number of countries have visa-exemption or visa-on-arrival arrangements, and rules change often — always confirm your status against the official sources below before you travel. Holders of certain travel documents and diplomatic passports may follow separate procedures.
Visa types
Tourist visa (T)
For sightseeing and leisure. Typically issued as single or multiple entry, with stays of 30–90 days depending on nationality.
Business visa (B)
For meetings, conferences, and trade. Usually requires an invitation letter from a registered Bangladeshi company.
Visa on arrival
Available to eligible nationalities at major airports for short stays, subject to conditions such as proof of onward travel and hotel booking. Not guaranteed — treat it as a fallback, not a plan.
e-Visa
An online application route is being rolled out for selected nationalities. Check the official portal for current eligibility.
Processing time
Standard processing at a Bangladeshi mission usually takes 5 to 10 working days, though this varies by embassy and season. Apply at least two to three weeks before departure to leave room for delays. Express services are offered at some missions for an additional fee.
What you'll need
- A passport valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry, with two or more blank pages
- A completed visa application form
- Recent passport-sized photographs
- Proof of onward or return travel
- Confirmed accommodation or an invitation letter
- The visa fee, which varies by nationality and entry type
Official resources
Always apply through official government channels. Start with these:
- Bangladesh e-Visa portal — visa.gov.bd
- Department of Immigration & Passports — dip.gov.bd
- Your nearest Bangladeshi embassy or high commission for country-specific requirements.
Visa rules change frequently. This page is a general guide, not legal advice — confirm the current requirements with an official Bangladeshi mission before booking travel.
