Getting there
Kuakata is about 320 km south of Dhaka. Since the Padma Bridge opened, direct AC and non-AC buses from Gabtoli or Sayedabad now cover the route in roughly 6-8 hours. An overnight river launch from Dhaka to Barisal, followed by a bus or motorboat onward, is a slower but more scenic alternative.
Best time to visit
October through March is the dry season and the best window: calm seas, clear skies, and comfortable temperatures around 15-28°C, ideal for watching both the sunrise and sunset. April-May and September-October are shoulder months with decent weather and fewer visitors.
What to see
- The main beach — an 18 km stretch of sand, the centerpiece of a Kuakata visit and the spot for the sunrise-and-sunset view the town is known for.
- Jhaubon (Jhau forest) — a stand of casuarina and coconut trees near the beach, a popular spot specifically for sunrise viewing.
- The fishing community's dried-fish (shutki) operations — along the eastern beach in winter, if you're curious about local livelihoods beyond the tourist strip.
Practical notes
